1969 Reunion Letter

Dear Classmate,

So, what have you been doing for the past 40 years? It would be great to find out! Here's your chance to see some old friends, renew acquaintances and visit the campus once again. It's our 40th reunion this May, and we hope to see you in Delaware!

Much has changed: The Jug, Monnett-gone! Now it's Hoggy's or Porky's or something, and in place of Monnett we have Monnett Gardens. And instead of the old MUB basement we have the beautiful new Hamilton-Williams Campus Center.

Much is the same: West Winter Street is still lined with graceful old houses; Slocum Library and Gray Chapel look solid as ever-and, as always there are no nice hotels/motels in town. You need to make reservations now!

We have booked some rooms just outside of town at excellent rates for the Class of 1969, but you need to call and put the reservation in your name:

  • Best Western Delaware Inn 740-363-3510 Total of 7 rooms: 5 with queen- size beds, 2 handicapped- accessible
  • Comfort Inn 740-363-8869 10 rooms with 2 queen-size beds

There are rooms available at the hotel at The Conference Center at NorthPointe (866-233-9393) with a special rate for OWU guests. It is at least 15 minutes from Delaware, but the rates include a full breakfast. We did not book rooms there. The Alumni Office has a list of more hotels and motels in the area.

It looks like a great weekend, with more time for socializing with everyone. Here are a few highlights:

  • Friday night: Blues and Barbeque Kick-Off Event on Friday night at the Hamilton-Williams Campus Center with live music. All classes are invited.
  • Saturday night: Reunion class dinners. Ours is tentatively scheduled to be in the newly-redecorated Smith Dining Hall. 5:30 Social Hour, 6:30 Dinner.
  • Later Saturday night: All -Alumni Social Under the Stars at the Hamilton-Williams Jaywalk. Music, dancing, more fun.

Complete information will be forthcoming in February, via the Alumni Weekend Brochure, but in the meantime, here are a few details from the Alumni Relations office:

1. COMPLETE AND RETURN the enclosed Alumni Questionnaire and Reunion Notes page to the Alumni Relations Office. Pay special attention to the Reunion Notes page, which includes space for you to tell everyone what you have been doing the last five years. These summaries will be published in the SUMMER 2009 issue of the Ohio Wesleyan Magazine, if received by March 1, 2009.

2. CALL, WRITE, and EMAIL your classmate friends and encourage them to come to the reunion.

3. MAKE YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ANNUAL FUND. We want to increase our class gift so we can boast about our record participation and support for the 2008-09 Annual Fund. Every dollar increase helps OWU, and if you have not participated in the campaign before, there has never been a better time. Ohio Wesleyan makes it easy to give: by check, credit card, or through the secure donation Web-site at http://alumni.owu.edu/giving. You may also make your Annual Fund gift in honor or memory of someone special.

4. REVIEW the enclosed list of "lost" classmates and let the Alumni Relations Office know if you have information on any of the individuals listed. They can be contacted at 740-368-3325 or by email at alumni@owu.edu.

The reunion committee and many of our classmates look forward to rekindling friendships and sharing countless memories of those OWU years!

Sincerely,

The 1969 Reunion Committee
